Yes, you read that correctly hjays is having a poetry contest for Valentine’s Day. Well it is kind of in the spirit of one of my more popular posts back in March ’07. This year I am hoping to get a LOT more submissions. Unlike a wonderful poem submitted by AFB last year contributers will be limited to 140 characters. Why only 140? Well mostly due to the fact that we will be using Twitter to receive ALL submissions. Twitter is a FREE service that is a lot like a public IM chat room. You can use it to share text messages with a group of people easily on the web, IM client, or mobile phone (standard txt msg charges apply to SMS). This makes it a perfect platform to host the contest.
Once you are signed up head over and start “following” my Twitter feed. Then you will be able so see the updates from all of my “followers”. Confused? Well I was too at first, but get over there and play around you will figure it out fairly quickly. Plus I am monitoring it so I will be able to answer questions. I think that after some of you take this experience to try the service you will find it very useful for many other applications.
Q: Contest? What do I win?
A: Well after a distinguished panel of judges decides the winner we well we haven’t come up with that yet, but just come out and do your best.
Q: Rules?
A: Original ideas only plagiarism is just no goddamn fun. You can submit as many entries as you like, in fact this is encouraged!! You will be limited to 140 characters per submission. The entries are only eligible if submitted to Twitter on Valentine’s Day Thursday the 24th and appear on the Twitter.com/hjays_ feed.
That’s it, lets see if we can get some good entries.
