Here we are wrapping up a packed summer movie season. Only a handful of movies are coming out in the next few weeks, but I’m keeping my eye on “Hamlet 2”, “Babylon AD”, “Death Race” and “Traitor”. In the past, late August has always been a dumping ground for movie studios who knew their movie was crap.

Tropic Thunder
This movie is fucking hilarious to the nth degree. Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Downey Jr are all at the top of their game as movie stars making a war movie based on Nick Nolte’s characters book. Tom Cruise is in heavy makeup as a hairy, maniacal studio executive that gets me laughing just thinking about him. You’ll be rolling the whole time, and make absolutely sure you don’t miss the beginning.

Pineapple Express
The latest “Apatow”-related movie in the same family as Knocked Up, Superbad and 40 Yr Old Virgin. Seth Rogen and James Franco team up for an “action stoner comedy” that works great. Very funny, and an alerted state-of-mind is not required, the jokes are fast and don’t stop coming.

The Dark Knight
What could I possibly say about this? Record-breaking, genre-smashing, Oscar-worthy? Almost 500 million dollars here in the US. I shouldn’t be asking “Have you seen it?”, but “Did you see it more then once?” Unforgettable, amazing and one of the greatest comic book film ever.
