The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian picks up one year after the first movie, and we are quickly transported back to the land of mystical beasts and talking animals. 1300 hundred years have passed in Narnia, leaving the place looking like nothing like it used to be. Narnia’s rightful heir to the throne, the young Prince Caspian, who has been forced into hiding, as his uncle Miraz plots to kill him in order to place his own newborn son on the throne.
At its core, Narnia is still very much a family film that all ages will enjoy. It is, however, alot darker and more serious this time around. The violence is never bloody, but there is a lot more of it. This Narnia is bigger, badder and funnier then the first movie. There are a few excellent battle sequences, and the movie moves along at a good pace. The supporting cast is deep with talent, notably Peter Dinklage as Trumpkin, a testy dwarf and a chivalrous, sword-fighting mouse amusingly voiced by Eddie Izzard.
If you enjoyed the first film, you will enjoy this one as well. It bodes well for the future of the series, the next “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (my favorite of all the books) has already begun production for a 2010 date. Like the Harry Potter movies, I hope they just keep getting better.
