I finally found the Firefox pluggin that I have been looking for: Flashblock 1.5.11.2
It is not quite as elegant as the Mac only ClickToFlash for Safari, but works the same way. This stops the FLASH from loading and replaces it with a FLASH icon. If you want to see the FLASH you click the icon plain and simple.
Why you ask? Well, FLASH is often used on sites for ridiculous eye candy or even ads. This is not necessarily the content you wish to see so why waste the bandwidth to load it. Instead make the content you want load quicker and be on your way. Also in case you are not aware of it there is quite the Anti-FLASH movement out there now. This is spurred mostly by the iPhone and upcoming iPads lack of support for FLASH. Here is a link to a great post by Adobe’s John Nack of the other side of the debate.
Although I am annoyed when I can’t view a site on my iPhone this really isn’t affecting me at all. Not since I have just been blocking FLASH when I am not on my iPhone and when I am I am annoyed for a second then simply move on.
