The New iPod Shuffle is Pretty Cool

I think the new iPod Shuffle will sell really well. As long as the controls work as well as they seem too. Unfortunately, I cannot justify the $79 price tag since I am not one of those “active” people. I also like to carry 20 GB worth of entertainment with me at all times. Yes, good old 3rd generation iPod will continue to suit my needs just fine. Well, until my AT&T contract is up for renewal in Aug. and I can purchase iPhone 3.

But the Shuffle is for active folks, people who run and bike and do all kinds of activities I’ve watched on my spiffy new 60-inch HDTV. For them, moving the controls means never having to fumble to find them inside a pocket or clipped to a sleeve. The voice interface means being able to navigate through playlists and through that twisty bike trail on the side of the hill, without unintentionally finding a shortcut to the bottom of the ravine. -Andy Ihnatko
